The GHCSS Has Concluded

The Global Health Clinical Seminar Series ran from 2007–2012 and was supported through PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. It was produced by International Training & Education Center on HIV (I-TECH) with funding from Cooperative Agreement U91HA06801 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), in collaboration with CDC.

Live, 1 hour distance learning sessions held twice a month for health care workers treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, the Caribbean and India. Experts present on a variety of advanced care, comprehensive management, and treatment topics to several countries around the globe. Archived sessions available on website with creation of login. Africa Teledermatology Project
Provides teledermatology consultation services, live discussions on diagnosis and management of patients with skin diseases, and links to educational resources and African dermatologic curriculum. Free.

Archived course materials developed by Commonwealth of Learning and its partner organizations on variety of topics. Available in various formats, including Word documents, PDF documents, and videos. Most materials are freely available for download and adaption, but some may carry restrictive licenses.
Emergency Contraception (EC) for Conflict Affected Settings: eLearning Module
Self-instructional module that provides basic information about EC to increase knowledge, better assess clients’ needs, and promote awareness within conflict-affected communities. Available online (download 4Mb zip file) and on CD-ROM. Available in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Pashto, and Burmese. Free.
EngenderHealth Online Courses
Site offers a 9-module course in infection prevention for health care workers in resource-limited settings, as well as three mini-courses in sexuality and sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV and AIDS. International AIDS Society-United States (IAS) Cases on the Web (COW)
Over 40 interactive web-based cases related to HIV. Focus is on the United States. Free.
John Hopkins University Open Access Courses and Training
Archived courses and educational materials developed by Johns Hopkins faculty on various topics. Available in slides, PDF documents, pre-recorded webcasts and videos. Some courses are in Spanish. Free.
Johns Hopkins University Point of Care Information Technology (POC-IT) Center Website
An online resource for clinicians treating HIV infected patients. Resource includes an electronic evidence-based clinical decision support guide intended for use at the bedside in primary and specialty care clinical settings or for continuing education and rapidly updating knowledge. Information can be downloaded to a computer or mobile device. Free.
  • HIV Guide: A comprehensive HIV guide that includes the latest information on HIV diagnosis, drugs, management and pathogens.
  • Antibiotic Guide: A resource for diagnosing, managing and treating infectious diseases.
  • Continuing Medical Education Center: Interactive multimedia programs featuring 1-hour lectures by experts. Also provides 15-minute web-based continuing medical education activities (called CME POC-IT). Materials are geared toward clinicians practicing in the United States; however, activities are archived and can be used for continuing education.
Medicine Online: Optimal Management of HIV/AIDS Therapy Cases and Videos
Three-part continuing medical education series provides videotaped interviews with three US clinicians and interactive patient case studies. Also includes an interactive multimedia textbook on HIV and AIDS.
Minimal Initial Service Package (MISP) for Reproductive Health in Crisis Situations: eLearning Module
A self-instructional learning module that helps to increase knowledge of priority reproductive health services to initiate at the onset of a crisis. Module includes chapter quizzes and a posttest. Available online and on CD-ROM. Available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Bahasa, and Russian. Free.
National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC) Online STD Case Study Series
Eight web-based practice cases to help physicians diagnose, treat and manage patients infected with, or at risk for, STIs. Designed for US-based clinicians. Free; must create login.
PEPFAR eLearning Center Online Modules
A technical resource for professionals working in the field of HIV and AIDS. Online courses on data quality, HIV and AIDS surveillance, and on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks for HIV and AIDS programs. Free; must create login.
The Quality Assurance Project (QAP): Tuberculosis Case Management eLearning
Resource allows users to practice and apply mastery of the World Health Organization's Directly Observed Therapy Short-Course (DOTS) approach on simulated cases. They can improve treatment and diagnostic decisions using computer-generated feedback on their performance.
University of California, San Francisco: HIV InSite Online Clinical Case Library
Provides seven original patient case studies describing clinical observations related to HIV care and treatment in resource-limited settings.
University of California, San Francisco and Francis J. Curry National TB Center Online TB/HIV Course
An hour long, interactive, case-based online course on the transmission, pathogenesis, epidemiology, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of TB and HIV-1 coinfection, including information on treatment of latent TB infection and treatment of active tuberculosis disease in the presence of protease inhibitors.
University of Washington Hepatitis Web Study
Sixty-eight interactive case studies and two video tutorials intended for health care workers involved with the clinical care of HIV-infected individuals. Topics include post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), ART, ART resistance, opportunistic infection (OI) prophylaxis and treatment, and drug-drug interactions. Also available on CD-ROM. Free.
University of Washington Hepatitis Web Study
Over 28 interactive case studies intended for health care workers involved with the care of patients at risk for infection with hepatitis. Topics include diagnosis, management and prevention of hepatitis A, B, C, and other hepatitis viruses as well as treatment in special populations. Free.
USAID Global Health E-Learning Center
